SHINJU JUNIOR BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 2022. Binar fielded 3 teams in this year's annual tournament in Broome and all 3 teams won the championships of their age division. It was a massive effort by all 3 teams and coaches.
Under 15s girls had a young squad and didn't start off the best when they lost their first game. They definitely got better as the tournament went on and won the grand final in a very close contest after coming from behind to win. Kaia Rukuata was outstanding and won the MVP of the 15s.
Under 18s girls had a very solid team and went in with a lot of confidence. They were very dominant throughout but still had to play well to be able to get the win in the Grand final. Zoe Simpson with the MVP of the tournament.
Under 18s boys division was a very tough division with the top 4 teams so tight that anyone could beat each other. Our boys were outstanding throughout and went through undefeated but it was far from easy. Their last 3 grading games were all decided by 5 points or less. They had a very intense semi final and were good enough to just get over the line against a very good team. The grand final a lot went right, they got off to a hot start against Derby who were then playing catchup. With their best player carrying an injury they just struggled to score as easily as they would of liked and our Binar got up to win by 11 points.
Ryan Culbong with runner up MVP and Tahj Loo with MVP of the tournament.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
